The paintings in this gallery comprise part of the Dean Jose Joya Professorial Chair Exhibition mounted at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas Art Gallery in Iloilo City in 1996.
They are noteworthy in the sense that they mark my transition in expression, in style, technique and substance,
from my previous body of works, then dominated by figurative expressionism in sepia tones, and textural abstractions. They also mark the beginnings of my fascination with themes focusing on the environment and
ecology, as well as on social issues, themes which are
given more focus in my body of works in painting in 1998.
The entire works in this exhibition are now in thecollection of Congressman Matias V. Defensor of Quezon City, Phil.
